Well , put the rear Shaft back in and cdl locked and same same .
Tried with front shaft in and out with CDL locked and unlocked with NO change in the noise.
RoverMastertech........what does this mean ? "Probably put the trans in sans the alignment dowels".
What about a clogged tranny filter??? I used the old one out of the Tranny that Crapped the bed only because I had replaced it a few K miles before it went. You say could be Tranny pump whine so maybe like an oil starved engine from a clogged pick-up the Old Filter is clogged with dirt and I'm getting Tranny Pump whine?
Guess I'll try that next as I'm not ready to give up on the replaced t-case.
So I guess with it in CDL and the front shaft out I can rule out the following???
1) bad front shaft
2) bad front output flange
3) bad front t-case output bearing
Correct me if I'm wrong
Thanks!
*** oh and did the research on the ABS module bleed. Did that NO Change.

Have you checked your fluid level in the Transfer Case? The tcase has been known to make a whining sound. Also some people have had luck putting 85/140 weight in the tcase and it has reduced or eliminated the sound.

oh yea several times. Keep in mind I've had a t-case in and out a few times now so am an expert on friggen oil everywhere!
I'm running full syn 85/140 with Lucas so not sure now much better it gets ?
IDK I keep reading here the t-case are bullet proof and here I may be facing 2 bad one's in a matter of a few hundred miles
Going to see if draining the t-case and tranny and putting in a new filter will help and checking the drain plugs on the t-case and see what I get.......not sure what else to do?

Did you take the PTO cover off the T-case when you went to put it on? Could be as simple as not having that situated properly. My understanding is if that cover is too loose or too tight it changes the load on the input gear bearings.

Not sure if its a good idea, but what if you took both driveshafts out, locked the cdl (so the front and rear flanges spin the same direction) and got it "up to speed" in the driveway. You could listen for the noise and at least narrow it down. Hopefully someone smart will chime in on the logic of that idea.

You can't have two driveshafts off and drive the car. You need to have one on at all times with the CDL locked. It would only make the noise less noticeable if your driveshafts or differentials are bad/damaged.

X2 on the ATF.

I know the rover will drive in cdl with front shaft out....will it do the same with the back shaft out?

The cdl basically shifts power 50/50 to front and back ?

Alright look, your crankshaft, torque converter, trans pump, trans output shaft, tbox input shaft tbox output shafts look like this. This is a very simple noise to pinpoint.

------ | ------ | ------ | ------ | ------ | ------ |
crank torque pump OS TBOX OUTPUT

So test the trans pump first! rev it in neutral. noise? bad pump/no dowels installed. No noise?

test 2

Transfer box in neutral, trans in gear. rev it. Noise? Bad trans output shaft bearings or bad TBOX input something. or bad tbox gear bearings. No noise?

test 3.

Drive car in high range and remember how loud it is at a certain speed. now put it in low range and drive the same speed. If the noise is LOUDER then its the transfer box. (input speed faster, output speed the same) If the noise is the same, It COULD be the ouput bearings on the TBOX or a differential.

ok great , will test asap. Had a bunch of snow here in Denver the last couple of days so the Garage is a little chilly . Will test tom. and post. I'm assuming both drive-shafts in for these tests?

ok
test 1 no noise
test 2 no noise
test 3 no difference in noise in H or L
Considering my original tbox went with a blown-up transmission output bearing it would just suck if the used one I picked up has the exact same problem looming. When the original one went it just imploded with zero prior noise. Either my last t-case imploded and fried the tranny or the tranny fried and blew the t-case bearing. Either way they both were NG and I had to replace them both. Keep in mind I drove this around for a couple of weeks after the replacement with NO noise. This just came on out of the blue and I have not driven it since. Here is a pick of the t-case I pulled out with the toasted bearring...........
