Need a fast answer on Dolly Towing
I understand that the Disco 1 can be flat towed. I ordered Roadmaster tow brackets for my "99" and they did not fit not even close. I have a build date of 05/98, the VIN checks to a 99 and my book even says its a 99 but it looks like the Roadmaster brackets that would fit my horns are 1998. Anyway long story short, leaving for a 3500 mile trip and cannot get the brackets befor I leave so I bought a Tow Dolly for the LR. CAN I 2 WHEEL TOW THIS VEHICLE IN NUETRAL? Book does not reference this that I can find.

After a bit more searching via internet, this is what I came up with
" Answer
You can tow the Range Rover behind a motor home, provided it's rolling on its own four wheels, and the transfer case is in neutral
Failure to put the transfer case in neutral will result in the destruction of the transmission. And towing with two wheels on a dolly will destroy the tranasfer case and/or transmission."
Meaning: I disconnect my drive shaft on this trip

TOWING FOR RECOVERY
Most vehicle recovery specialists will load
Discovery onto a trailer. However, if it is
necessary to recover the vehicle by towing with
all four wheels on the ground, observe the
following procedure:
1.
With the handbrake applied, set both the
main gearbox and transfer box in neutral
(
‘N’ Neutral for Automatic transmission).
2.
Turn the starter switch to the first position
to unlock the steering, and then to position
‘
II’ if it will be necessary to operate the
brake lights and direction indicators.
3.
Secure the towing attachment to the front
towing eye of the distressed vehicle.
4.
Release the handbrake.
That is what I would do, but, if you have a long tow and a weak battery, it will be dead time you get to where you are going cause in the second position power is running to many areas of your engine and truck.
I would doo all that is mentioned, then try and leave the key in the first position, the steering shouldn't lock.
Let us know what works for you.

Thanks for the input guys. I will be removing the drive shaft for the Tow Dolly pull. The tow dolly that I picled up the axles actually turn like a front steering knuckle leaving the dolly platform perfectly straight under the tow vehicle and I believe that a locked wheel will be correct in this case. I also built up alight bar wired to the RV that uses the tow receiver as a mount so I could keep the vehicle wiring seperate.
