Default need sound conformation..

Hey All, Was driving today on freeway and all of a sudden i started hearing a squeaking noise comming from dash i thoght. No vibration , just a slight annoying sound as if the truck where shaking and something on the dash was squeaking. I actually had to turn the radio down to hear it. I have owned land rovers for over 10 years and any noise is like a pilot having a engine out..i was all over it trying to isolate. Rolling the windows down you cannot hear. I went into town and started to really listen. It has to have something to the drivetrain. Not tranny as i went threw all the gears and no difference in annoying sound of rats in my dash or floor. It's like rats making a squeaking noise. No tick or grinding ..just squeaking. It does coinside with the speed and movement. I am thinking driveshaft as i have not rebuilt yet. In checked threw it and looks new as it was replaced before i bought it. My next step was to put on jack stands and let run in drive to isolate noise. transfercase has just been changed but makes noise only when moving. Any thoughts??? It really sounds like a dash squesk but is comming from under shift consold. Well , as best as i could isolate this afternoon...

Thanks Chris

I'd find a long building and drive next to it (close and slow) with your window down.

It's amazing what you'll hear.

Thanks greg, i tried that ..i really think i need it up on jack stands which i can do in my driveway and just put it in drive and go underneith and see where it is comming from. I am thnking driveshaft as everything else has been replaced and you ony here when rolling..ie. driveshaft turning... i swear it sounds like i have rats underneith. No vibration what so ever..

I chased a similar problem in my 4runner..

Actually cost me
2 u joints and
2 rear axle bearings/seals [750$!!!!!]

AND I still had the noise..
Then I sold it... STUPID STUPID STUPID, wish I never put the money into it...

Never did put it on blocks and run it.

Thats not good... The sound is pretty noticable comming right under the center dash or where the shift consol is. Cant really hear outside. Well unless i ran along side the truck i guess. This started all of a sudden yesterday and not something that started slowly as i am always listening for stuff to go wrong..

thanks for the input , Chris
