new 1997 discovery SD owner
Hello, I am a new 1997 owner and I am already having problems. This discovery ran great for a week and this sunday morning it will not start. Now that I think of the only that changed is that I read somewhere that I can put middle grade 89octane in the disco. I put ten gallon Exxon and it ran okay. I will not do that again. Could this cause the disco not to start or is there a history for starting problems. Is there a good place to take it to for service including the landrover dealership in new york city anywhere. Also where is a good website or location to get less expensive part and service in NYC. My mechanic can not figure out why it will not start. Help
On the top of the engine, there is a silver tube, this is the fuel rail. There is a cap on what looks like a tire valve on the passenger side of this tube. Pull the cap and push in the plunger and see if fuel squirts out.
Also, try to start it in neutral, or make sure it is in park all of the way.
Lock and unlock your truck 3 times consecutively with the key fob to ensure your alarm is off.
Every once in a while, mine won't start and I have found mine to be a bad neutral lockout switch. Well, either that or the broken shift indicator slide plate getting in the way. Check the above and get back to us.

Hello, I told the mechanic also that I had the car detailed when I got it and also had the engine washed, they started laughing. I found out today that that may have been the mistake of the century. I got it to a land rover service place that does 85% land rover and a couple of sensors I must have damaged. This may be a $500.00 engine wash. I did not know not to wash the engine. I learn and pay as I go along.
thanks for the help.

firing water all over an engine that is electronically controlled was def a mistake, especially since you don't know the current condition of all the engine control units. it only takes a small amount of water to short out an electrical component, especially ones that weren't that weren't to designed to military spec to begin with. I'd suggest if you plan on keeping with OEM parts and taking this disco off road that you seal all the wire connections with something... heat-shrink tubing, heat resistant caulking, tool sealer, etc... something that can withstand mass amounts of heat without wearing out... "dolomyte, the mineral that won't crap out when theres heat all about!"
I don't think I have ever taken it anywhere for anything, so I can afford to have a 6.5hp 2500psi Honda pressure washer.... Just don't blast the wires. I feel much better washing a totally cold engine. With the aluminum blocks I get nervous..
