Default New 2000 owner....questions.

Hello Everyone,

Back in the Discovery Fold...Previous 1998 owners, just bought a 2000 disco with about 70k.

Unfortunately no service records, but can tell the car has been very well maintained. Would like to do a 60k type service, just to set the clock for myself. Engine runs just a little rough at idle and on the go, also suspension is a little rough. (No air) Thinking a new set of shocks, cap, rotor, wires and plugs. Also Diff oils, air and fuel filters. I remeber someone once posting a good list of parts for 60k type service.....am I missing anything else. Also will try the seafoam thing, Before or after tune up?

Shock abrorbers.....Experience? KYB, Bilstein, monroe....Any info appreciated.

I guess the sickness has returned, just bought the truck from the local nissan dealer last night, and already planning hours underneath it. Thanks for any info.

Matt

The 60 K service is a smart move. For shocks, it really depends on your $$$ budget. If I may ask, what did you pay for it.

I paid 5500, on an asking price of 7900. End of the month, large dealer had to move some inventory. I thought it was fair for both of us, they're pretty popular in that price range here in the DFW area.

In great shape cosmetically, glossy paint, perfect interior and glass, even decent tires and brakes. Someone took care of it. Only fault I can find is a small amount of surface rust starting on the frame, it came from the Dakotas. Didn't think they had a LR dealer in Sioux Falls....who knew.

As far as shocks are concerned I've seen the Cheapy monroes for 160 set of four, and the kyb or bilsteins closer to 260. Probably go the latter with a knew set of bushings.

Look forward to contributing....turned a lot of wrenches over the years.

Well, you dont have a cap and rotor, no fuel filter either.
Your rough running is because you need a tune up.
Is the check engine light on yet?

Great price and a good deal, glad you're back with a DII.

I have used the bilstein brand, on LRs and MBs with good results.

Bilstein started in the 1870s by August Bilstein as a foundry. In the 1950s they invented the pressurized gas shock working with Mercedes Benz and became standard equipment on MBs since then.

Yeah....Have always been happy with bilstein quality. replaced a set on an 86 300sdl years ago for my wife, well girlfriend then, good results. As far as the cap and rotor, yes spike you are right, sorry, just got the truck last night, and remeber working on our old 98, I see the intake system is completely different. At first I thought it might be a 4.6 motor, as they look similar, but the sticker said otherwise. I go through a lot of cars, sometimes I get a little confused.....Thanks everyone.
