Default New Buyer Help Please

I have an Abbey 520 Impression 1287kg-1587kg caravan that I have been towing for about 6 years with my 2005 Passat Trendline petrol 130hp.
I have to say it is not ideal as it is about as much as you want to tow and often don't have the traction on the front to drag up hill without wheelspin.
As we have a small runabout it sits on the drive mot of the year. I have now decided to take the stress out of always worrying about stopping on a hill etc and booked a test drive with the view of buying a 2003 03 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 2.5 TD5 ES 5D 136 BHP Automatic.
It is very good condition and has 111000 on the clock.
Am I doing the right thing in purchasing it or not?
My alternative was an Audi A6 Alltrack but they do often seem to get diff problems and that can be expensive.

Any opinions would be appreciated.
