Default Front drive shaft loose

Hello everyone,

I bought a 2003 ds2 w/ 91k about a week ago and I’m never letting this one go. She’s my first LR so I’m new to the maintenance schedule, but not new to maintenance. So here’s where I need some guidance...

I bought it with the three amigos. I know, but it’s had the bags removed so I figured it was a given. While the vehicle is off I’ve noticed that the fuse 30a 12v has a little ticking sound coming from it and it’s just slightly slower that the one off of the Wabco abs (which also ticks). When I unplug the abs, obviously the abs stops ticking. The entire airbag kit is still installed with the exception of the bags so I’m thinking it’s drawing power, should I rip it all out and plug the fuse?

Okay second problem:

I checked both drive shafts for play and there was No play in the front or aft d/s. I was out today in a flat and level parking spot and started the engine with my foot on the brake and felt a grind in the pedal. A few miles down the highway the check engine came on. Now the fwd d/s has play at the diff seems to “click” over a tooth. It’s not the right answer, but should I just take the fwd d/s out?

I’ve downloaded the manual, she’s got a few leaks to find the source of but that’s not too bad. Thanks for the help in advance.

I presume that when you say airbags you mean the air springs were removed, not the airbags mounted in the steering wheel and in the dashboard above the glove box.

Having the air springs swapped for coils has nothing to do with the three amigos, but it could have something to do with the clicking and battery drain you're talking about. It's best to have the air springs setting in the slabs computer changed from air to coils if they are springs are removed. Not doing so can definitely cause battery drain.

As for the front driveshaft, does it have at least three grease fittings - one on each of the U-joints at the double-cardan and one on the other U-joint at the other end of the shaft? Some have a different type of grease fitting on the centering ball in the middle of the double-cardan joint.

Welcome and good luck

Prepare to learn and wrench away unless you have unlimited time and money because you will need it at the shops.

1 get a good code reader for abs don't guess
2 read read read everything had been covered here
3 replace thermostat asap with 180 and get a temp reader like a ultra guage ( this is the most important)
or you will be looking at a new engine
4 replace driveshaft with a grease able
5 read disco mikes sticky on maintenance
