I have just inherited a 2000 Disovery II. It seems to be in pretty decent condition. I have been made aware of a transmission rebuild though. From what I understand it is common for the transmission to get ripped apart at highway speeds do to malfunctioning Ujoints? What should my first steps be to get going. I would like to get it checked out, or if possible do some diagnostics myself. I live in Columbia sc, does anybody know of a good place to get it checked out? We have a LR dealer, but I've always been wary of dealers. ANY help/hints/tips would be greatly appreciated.

You can DIY - see Propshaft Rebuild - Land Rover Forums - Land Rover Enthusiast Forum, which is part of our technical "sticky" area, where you'll find lots of good writeups on how to fix common problems. Please take advantage of the free download below of the complete set of factory tech manuals and owner's manuals, called the RAVE. Once you look under there and see if you have grease fittings on the all the joints on the drive shafts start a new thread in the D2 section and you will get plenty of help.
