New Discovery Owner questions and Problems
Okay 1994 Discovery Purchased 3 weeks ago. 158,000 miles and running
Already replaced the water pump due to overheating. Did the Thermostat as well.
Then changed the Cap and Rotor and changed the oil.
Ordered the spring from Ebay to supposedly fix the rear door so I can open it normally.
Replaced the serpentine belt last weekend (Broke) and cleaned the MAF and inatake.
Also ran a few bottles of STP Fuel treatment.
But can I tell you I love my Land Rover (New Additction and toy) other is a 1999 Silverado full customized.
Issues!!!!
1) Idle is rough and seems like it wants to die at lights or sometimes when first started it revs up to 1500+ then settles back down.
2) Shakes like HE** when hitting a bump at anything over 60MPH.... makes driving on the highway a pain. The steering shakes and I have to slow down because it feels like the truck is coming apart up front.
3) Misses when driving (Seems like for a split second engine shuts off then kicks back in) Like total loss of power for a second or two. (I have new wires on order) and plan to change the plugs?
4) SRS Light is on for no apparent reason.
ANY TIPS ANY TRICKS???..... Advice
Already bought the Haynes Manual and Fact Manual on CD
(Haynes Manual helped with the unexpected belt replacement)
THANKS I am very active on the Chevy forum but this is my first Rover (My Daily Driver)

Welcome!
I wouldn't try to clean the MAF anymore. The Sagems MAFS are tougher than Bosch, but still a little touchy. On the wires, go fo the 8MM magnacor wires and Bosch +4 or fusion plugs. Don't use The cheap Bosch wires. This may solve your missing problem. For the rough idle, see if you have a temp sensor on the drivers side of the fuel rail. A bad one can contribute to a rough idle.
On the shaking, look at all of you ball joints(tie rod ends) and see how worn they are. It takes 3 RH thread and 1 LH thread. If everything is good, get an OME (OLD Man Emu) steering stabliser. Difference is night and day.
SRS light comes on due to a low voltage situation sometimes. Find a dealer or local Rover shop to check it out...
There are good parts suppliers out there like www.atlanticbritish.com, for the parts I listed above, the best prices are at www.lrrforums.com look for the store....
Happy Halloween...

Thank you this is what I love about forums....
I have wires on order (Ebay) owner had them in for 3 months until they began parting the car out.
For Plugs I have always had good luck with NGK Conventional even in my truck so will try those.
I am going to get the truck in and look at the front suspension a little closer with this tip in mind.
Also I have heard that the Swivel Pin Housings need some kind of odd pre-load or you get what I am finding out is called DISCO DEATH SHAKE OR WOBBLE.... Is that what I am experiencing?
(My firend thought I was crazy that I would not go over 60 until I explained how I would not take our lives into my hand and shake us to pieces LOL)
I am also going to look into the temp sensor..... I have been researching and they also mention the coolant temp sensor but seems like that is ok?
For the Maf I used CRC cleaner designed for Mafs and very carefully cleaned the inner ports but stayed away from the Hot Plate etc. Will avoid in the future.
I love the Vehicle though (Almost an addiction these last few weeks) Went off-road .......okay Mud and bog pit on a vacant lot ... LOL and had a blast .... This thing in 4 Low is a beast!
I am sold on Rovers

Too many issues to type about.
Call me with you list, have paper and pencil in hand and I'll be glad to give you a list of what to do or check.

# 2 Get the pitman arm checked, this comes off the power steering
and if it brakes you have no steering a very bad thing.
1# & #3Sounds like a idle control valve, TPS may need cleaning.
Good luck.
