Danyjames that sounds like good advice. I’ve only done HG’s on my Rover V8’s with the engine installed. With the engine out, I’ve wondered how hard it is to break the head bolts free or torque them properly without the engine wanting to topple off the stand. Do you need 2 people? Obviously people do this all the time, but I’ve wondered how.

@Harvlr I have done iron block V8 heads on a stand it is no big deal as long as you have a good stable stand. The torque is pretty low on these 70 to 75 FT/LBS. Breaking is no worse, assuming you have a modicum of common sense.

Richard, I’m wondering about the TTY head bolts, which are 3 ft breaker bar tight.

You rotate the engine around where the torque force is down through the floor which the engine stand obviously resist. Much easier to do on the stand.
