Hey guys,

I'm 160 miles into my new 4.0 GPR long block in my '02 D2 but Mike didn't send any Zinc additive with my engine.

a.) did you guys use the zinc given the mention of possible O2 sensor damage?
b.) what is the specific Zinc additive that Mike sent you?
c.) did you keep the RPMs down/inconsistent during the first 500mi break in?
d.)how is your engine running now? I see that your last post was about 6 months ago...

I'd love to hear from everyone on the forum who has purchased an engine from Great Plains Rovers about how they are running and how many miles you have on your rebulit engine, etc., etc.

Jimmy, I ran the additive for the first and second oil cycles per mikes recommendation. I used his zinc the first time and the parts store the second. Don't remember the brand. I'm at 10k miles and it's running great. I'm happy thus far.

I believe the additive was ZDDPlus. I have about 6000 miles on my engine; all is well.

I have 4500 miles on mine and am very happy with the performance...

Just can't find a damned exhaust leak... Driving me nuts!

Smoke test did not reveal a leak, but it's there... It's not a cracked manifold...

6K miles...all is well. Averaging 15mpg and have better throttle response and power.

Could you please tell us how long it took you to complete the hole swap?
Thank you

A very long weekend. I've done 3 swaps, and I start Friday afternoon and finish Sunday evening. That's working by myself, and I'm typically a little slower than others.

To clarify, I was not sent the additive and did not use it. Was told to use 5W30 non-synthetic for the first 5K mi, after which I could use a blend. I now use Rotella 15W30 however like most. I kept my RPMs low as best I could (2,500 or less) for the first 500 mi, yes. Swap took me 3 days, then a couple more to iron out some bugs (CPS not plugged in, 1 spark plug wire was bad, etc.

Valvoline VR1 non synth is a great oil to use the first 6k miles as it contains
ZDDP additive. I am using this in my motor.

See attached images, what are your thoughts about the cat converter damage that zinc additives are prone to cause? I'm apprehensive to add this stuff to my new GPR engine even though Mike suggests doing so in his warranty agreement.
