New member ? 95 Disco cranks, not starting, have spark and compression, new fuel pump, any ideads?
I am new to the Land Rover Forums, but have been reading some of the posts to help get any information on my Disco problem. A very common type problem I gather from reading so many posts with the same type issue. Here is my story not so unique problem.
I purchased a non running (starting) 1995 Land Rover Discovery (US model) with 3.9 V8, automatic with 109,000 miles.
Reliable seller stated that when the Disco was filled up with possible bad gasoline. It ran roughly immediately afterwards and then would not start the following day. It sat for about two weeks before I purchased it from him. He stated that about two weeks prior to the fill up he replaced the fuel filter, cap, rotor and plugs.
I thought it would be an easy fix, not so easy. I did not research the problems these vehicles could have. I started to (highly discouraged)throw parts at the problem. I drained the fuel tank and lines, installed new filter, put in 10 gallons fresh high octane gasoline with a bottle of Heet. I then bought and installed a new battery, new fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, 2 Bosch fuel relays, new coil, plugs. No luck (as if luck would help). I then bought reconditioned fuel injectors and installed them. Ijust got in the new crank sensor, but have not yet installed it. I also ordered a new Lucas cap and rotor and Magnacore plug wires.
I have good spark at plugs and good compression on all 8 cylinders. The Disco will crank till no tomorrow, but not fire. It sounds like every once in awhile like it wants to, but no fuel is getting to the engine. The spark plugs dont smell like gas, only the cleaner and occasion starting fluid we used to try to get it started. There was some rust in the fuel rail, but I cleaned it pretty good. It would appear that the injectors are not getting the signal to open.
At this point I'm willing to listen to reason, and stop spending money on, at this point is just preventative maintainance parts and not solving the issue.
I have an 02 code, which I read is the ECU reconnected code.
What else could be going on, (an electrical problem). Multi function relay, alarm, immobilizer (gas cut off switch), MAS, 02 sensors, stepper motor, or ECU? I am determined to get it running and have the enjoyment of driving a Land Rover. I just want to work smart, now that I have found some help on Land Rover Forums.
