New please help!
I am working on an 03 Landrover discovery with a 4.6 w/secondary air. The engine now I believe has a slipped sleeve or more. Either way the engine makes an awful ticking noise that has only gotten louder with time. I tried the thicker oil 20/50, which only helped slightly for a short period. Rather than the expensive hassle of getting a head job, i have purchased a used engine with thirty thousand less miles. I am trusting the engine is good only because it comes with a warranty. My problem is I have never worked on one of these engines before, I am confident however; in my ability to do so. What I dont have is access to all data and in dire need of installation steps and procedures along with torque specs and bolt sequences. I want to do this right the first time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

And we also have posts about pinning the liner and stopping ticking.... this is a resourceful band of devoted followers of the green oval.
But one question - does this ticking start when engine is first cranked (valve train), or must it warm up for it to begin (liner)? Have you located the noise with a listening stick (yard stick held to ear and touched to valve covers, etc.)?

If ticking starts cold and continues, it is usually not the sleeve. Can certainly be valve train. THe thought is that the sleeve begins to slip when engine gets to a certain temperature, and that it can even stop when rpm goes up, because slipping liner can't keep up with piston travel. So noise goes away at rpm, and comes back at low speed.
But it may have done all that with a previous sowner. And now is ticking all the time.
You would think with the cheap gas we burn that gunk would build up and hold the liner in place....
