Default Temps dropped 20 degrees F!

Thanks for all of the advise gentleman. I replaced the fan/clutch, water pump(just for good measure), and swapped out the OEM thermostat with a 180 degree F one and my in-town temps went from averaging 120F down to 95F. I have yet to see 200F!
Took 2.5 days of scraping that damn water pump gasket, about 4 trips to autozone, and my hands look like I lost a fight with a Tomcat, but she's runnin cool as a cucumber!
Cheers
j

Must be having trouble typing with his bandaged up knuckles.

Glad to hear it worked out. Sounds like your radiator is in decent shape so you should be set for a while.

Well he's saying 120F down to 95F, not sure if that's a typing error or his Disco is not running when he's taking these temps.

I've chased high temps for two years in mine. Same exact temps you see. 221 was the average and normal. New radiator, water pump, fan, clutch, hoses, etc. all new. Still had the same temps.
Savannah, Mike and many others came up with many ideas, but still, no change. The thing I finally did was put in the grey thermostat and now it is fine. Some may say it is a band aid masking an issue, but I don't think so. Now,it never goes above 215 even in 100 degree heat in traffic. Interesting enough, it could be 0 or 100 out and the readings stay the same. 201 on highway, 205 on back roads, 208 in stop and go, 212-215 in stopped traffic.
Also...I mentioned this to someone else the other day, but don't buy a heavy duty fan clutch. Only downsides and no upsides.
