Default No power!

Ok guys. I just did a new head gasket job on the old girl and she is all back together. Engine revs great and idle is ok and around 500ish. When in Drive the engine will not rev up above 1200 or so and I get a flashing SES light. Back in park it is good.

I'm thinking it's a TPS or do you think that when I blew the gasket that I trashed the o2 sensors? I don't have a code reader. I know go get one but... I was thinking you guys have a good idea. Thanks

Jon

TPS is certainly one place to start, as would checking every sensor to be sure you have it plugged back in. And plug wires on right plugs. And no shop rag stuffed in air cleaner.

All this gets a lot easier if you know the codes. With all the coin you saved from keeping the dealer from doing your head gaskets, may be time to consider your own Ultra Gauge (reads codes, live data, and resets them - $70); a bluetooth OBDII port adapter and $5 app for you smart phone, or about $120 at parts store (reader/scanner).

Ultra gauge is on the way! I don't know why I did not do this 2 weeks ago. With close to 160 on the old girl I'm guessing it's time for new o2s anyway.

New head gasket check
New water pump check
New belts and hoses check
New rad check
Lift and ultra gauge on the way

Disco back, priceless.

I hope this is a simple fix.

Ok. Code reader is on the way. I am not getting power to 1,7,4,6. No spark. Coil is new. Wires are new. Plugs are new. Now what?

1,7,4,6 all are on the same coil pack. So either you have a bad coil pack or you failed to plugin the electrical harness to the coil pack.

Does "no codes" mean you have no check engine light illuminated, or does it mean no codes are dispalyed on an OBDII reader/scanner? I ask, because my light is probably unhooked by previous owner, never comes on, but virtually all code readers will display "MIL status" for malfunction indication light - as on or off.

No SES light. Ultra gauge should be in today.
