Default No spark. No start. Help!

Hi all,

2003 Disco 2 SE7 V8 128k miles
Replaced the head gaskets and figured since I’m in there I might as well we’ll replace some other stuff that would likely give me a problem down the road.

So replaced both ignition coils, wires, plugs, upstream 02 sensors and crank position sensor.

The car ran fine before all the work, now not starting.

It cranks but won’t turn over. Checked for spark on both banks and nothing. No spark at all. Plugs smell like gas so fuel seems to be getting there. I tried resetting the inertia switch anyway. Still nothing.

at this point I’m thinking is could be ECU, ECM etc.

before jumping to that conclusion, any thoughts?

thanks!

My bet is not the computers you mention. The items that you disturbed are things like the coils. Are the wires mixed up? Did the coils get plugged in correctly? MAF sensor not plugged in, etc. I don’t think that your inertia switch is tripped as you’re getting fuel. I’d concentrate on the items you disturbed

ok thanks. Good to have some confidence in the process of elimination. I was very careful putting the wires back in order and the MAF (also new) is in, but I think at this point I just need to get the upper plenum off again and make sure it’s all tidy.

I’ll pull it apart tomorrow and report back.

thanks again

Ok so finally had time to get back at this. Wires are all connected to coils correctly.

maf is new and is now plugged in, original coils and wires are reinstalled. So now I’m back to completely stumped mode.

any other thoughts?

thanks

Dead CPS turns off the injectors, not the coils. This is done so as not to hydrolock the engine. If the injectors are firing, then it is not the CPS. If your coils are not firing, I would look at the wiring and potentially the ECU, but there is no logical reason why the ECU would go bad during the HG job. Back to the coil trigger wires.
