Default Noise on Start Up

I have a '01' Disco that when starting from cold has begunto give a 1 minute or so whailing noise. It sounds like a fan/air box noise coming from the firewall-passenger side area. It goes away after a minute or so and doesn't make this noise when engine is warm, isn't really affected by throttle either.

ideas?

thanks, clay

That would be your secondary air pump taking a dive. If you're not getting any fault codes, it may be salvagable...at least for a while. I've posted on a quick resolution for this before, do a search for secondary air. basically just remove the in and out hoses from both your secondary air pump and vacuum pump while cold, spray some WD-40 or other lubricant in there, reconnect hoses and start it up. I've also removed the filter from the secondary air pump and sprayed in there while it's running...will quiet it down quite a bit.
