Noise when steering? what to grease?
It is not the belt. I have the same noise and I assume it is either the tie rod end, or maybe the steering box starting to go a bit or maybe a bad ball joint. Like others pointed out it only happens when going slow and cranking the wheel all the way around. This spring I am going to do my tie rod end and see if that solves the problem. It is not from a pump or a belt because I replaced both.
Things that will cause your noises are, the belt tensioner being weak, needing to have your p/s fluid changed, your pump or gear box failing.
Be more specific as to the type of noise.

Mike, I don't know of a better way to describe it other than a groan. It only happens at very slow speeds while parking, or at no speed while turning the wheel. It doesn't happen consistently, but when it does happen it is easy to hear inside with the windows closed. There is no squeaking like a belt normally makes while slipping. There is a very, very slight vibration through the steering wheel when it makes the sound. There is no increase in the pressure required to turn the wheel when the sound occurs. I haven't yet replaced the PS fluid, so I will do that next, however I am not losing any fluid and the level is full. I noticed when I replaced the belt the tensioner made some noise when I spun it, like maybe the bearing wasn't in the best shape. It didn't wobble or anything so I left it, but maybe that could be the problem. Thanks for the help.
Gentlemen; this sounds like something I went through. Mine sounded as if the PS pump was straining when going in reverse and turning the wheel to the left. The PS pump was fine.
Check out TSB no: 76/13/03/NAS
Date: 05/23/03
Situation: Knocking/creaking Noise from the front of the Vehicle. "The customer may complain of a knocking or creaking noise from the front of the vehicle. The noise is frequently noticeable when making a turn. Movement of an internal spacer in the front longitudinal chassis member where the Power Assisted Steering (PAS) box is located is the cause of the noise.
Just go to a dealer and ask them to print out the TSB above. All of the instructions on how to fix are in the TSB. It requires welding and is about a $150 fix (cheaper if you have the equipment and know how to weld) and the noise will go away. The only thing that needs to be removed is the L/H front wheel to drill the weld holes. No engine parts need to be removed.
