Default NOOB ABS Question:

Hey guys - new LR owner here. I just got my better half a 2002 DISCO II with 87K. I am pretty familiar with working on 4x4's but this is my first LR and these forums are much appreciated as there seems to be good participation and tons of experience.

In going over the truck and putting together to-do list and associated parts list I noticed a slight clicking noise that is coming from the ABS pump when the truck is sitting static (engine not running, key not etc.) in the driveway. Is this normal for these vehicles? It sounds as if the pump is functioning when the engine is not even running. I looked at several trucks with the "3 amigos" and avoided them being happy to find a well priced rig that was clean with no obvious problems.

The "service engine soon" light just came on yesterday but I have not pulled the code yet as my scanner is loaned out at the moment. I have no other warning lights and the truck seems to running fine. BTW - my wife regular gas in it on the way home from purchasing it before we knew it required premium fuel. Not sure if that could have caused something to trip the "service engine soon" light?

Any help/insight is much appreciated.

I am about to start in tomorrow on changing all fluids, cleaning up from leaky valve cover gaskets, replacing valve cover gaskets, and parts on order to complete front prop shaft rebuild.

The ABS modulator is supposed to remain "live" for 5-10min after shut down, if it continues to run all night then it needs to go to the dealer for the TSB on that issue, its a computer re-program.
No the regular gas did not set off the MIL.
Tighten the valve cover bolts, 8mm 12point socket, that stops 98% of the valve cover leaks, just tighten the ones you can reach.

Good to know. Thanks Spike. I'll check it to see how long it is running.
