If you have the means, I highly recommend the snap-on ball joint press kit. Has all the cups and the c-clamp is a forged steel monster that is massively strong. Ball joint job still a PITA, will be doing another one in a few weeks on my 2000.

So @mln01 was right. I had the suspension checked out at PepBoys and the mechanic went over it pretty thoroughly. He said the shocks, springs, ball joints and other aspect of the suspension looked good and the was no play. Only cost $20 for his opinion. I asked him “Well what’s making that clanging noise when I go over that bump in the parking garage?” He looked at me deadpan and said, “It could be those d rings you have attached to the front bumper.” Doh!

One reason I keep my shackles stashed throughout my vehicle plus they can't come loose and get lost while traveling if they are stored inside the vehicle. I have at least one near every door so I or someone can grab one regardless of vehicle position.

Channeling Carl Spackler - "Hey! How about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know."

If it was worth $20 for the Pep Boys mechanic to tell you that you don't need ball joints how much is my advice worth? I figure I saved you at least $75-$80, and more importantly LOTS of effort and frustration, not to mention skinned knuckles and substantial contributions to the swear jar. (Wink, wink)

PM me and we can work out where you send my repair avoidance consulting fee! I accept Zelle and PayPal.
