Default NOT AGAIN... Power Steering

Well I am back again folks, this time with powersteering problems... I have had a bit of a leak for a while but it cleared up for the most part with a bottle of Lucas PS stop leak and some new hoses. but this weekend I noticed a large puddle of ps fluid under the car and on the way back from lunch the power started cutting in and out. Some times you get PAS sometimes is manual steering. Called the dealership and they want 1700 for the gearbox and 600 for the pump, so, I guess first question is how difficult is it to do the replacement? or can anyone offer any tips that could make it last another month? I got a really nice bonus check coming at the end of July...

If you fill the p/s full of fluid, does it still act up?
I wouldn't just throwing parts at it without really having it checked out.

Well, when I first started having issues with it yes, it would quiet down after adding some fluid. Now, now mater what I do its still really loud.

Also, I just went out and played around a bit after the car cooled off a bit and what a puddle of fluid I had. Anyway, I started it up and its not making as much noise, but i noticed that the fluid in the res. is foaming a WHOLE LOT! does that mean anything to anyone?

I dont know as much as the other guys. But my current problem, that i dont have the money to fix yet is a.. um.. seal? or gasket? somewhere, thats causing a leak and to loose power. This could be not related to you at all.. but just sharing my problems.

What year is your trk? If it is a DII is takes power steering fluid, if it is a DI it takes ATF for poer steering fluid. If you use to much stop leak you will clog it.
I would flush the system and start with fresh fluid.

Mike, do you think the gear box is ok? Also, how difficult of a job is it to replace the pump on a Disco2? I was looking through the shop manual and got to the remove the A/C compressor and quit reading cause that made me a bit squeamish... Or is it something I would be better off just biting the bullett and taking to the dealership to let them do?
