Default Not sure where to post

I have a 2000 discovery and it started making a whining noise(best way to describe: sounds like something rubbing on metal disk..) today. Starts around 15 miles an hour or second gear. Thought it might be a brake rotor but no discernible noise when brakes applied. Haven't checked front dif oil level yet but was thinking that might be it? Just not sure but really hoping that it's not my transmission. any ideas?

Check your front drive shaft u joints. They dry out and start making noises, then break apart and the drive shaft takes out your tranny.

Ditto on Bundu's answer that is priority #1. The forum is covered in threads related to this problem.

First off, thanks for the replies gentlemen. I feel like a total idiot though. I forgot to mention that my front bumper was missing and that the wheel well plastic hangs down a little bit. It had been tied forward but somehow came loose and was rubbing the tire. sorta hard to check when one is driving. Thanks though guys... On a side note, with my computer I find it almost impossible to know where or how to post. This is not the case with my phone which seems rather backwards to me. I have noticed one or two others posting in the wrong spot as well. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction on how to post?

Glad you figured it out. BUT, you should still heed the advice on the driveshaft and check it immediately.

Hey spaz12...you posted correctly...just click on the black "New Thread" button on the top left hand side, title it specifically so members can find it easily in a search function, post your comment, question, statement, etc. and please try to finish the thread by posting the solution or fix you applied so other members can benefit/learn.

BTW, X2 on what Disco_Fever posted...
