Could also be the slop in the axle diffs. Have a rear end shop check it or you can put the tranny in park, jack up the rear end, and give your tire a spin by hand to see how much slop is in the system (make sure the drive shaft is not turning).
Also, if you have not had your tranny fluid replaced in a while, it would not hurt to replace the fluid and filter regardless.

You don't have a tranny shop do a tune up on a Rover, if you expext it to be done right. That is like going to Midas for a brake job, you get a big bill and truely junk for parts.
