Here's a tip that might help... if you don't have a bearing press to remove the u-joint from the yoke, use two sockets- one large enough to brace the yoke on and push the bearing into, and the other small enough to push the bearing through the hole in the yoke from the other side. Sandwich the hole thing in the middle of a large C-clamp, or, if it's stubborn, use a B.F.H. and hit the small socket downward, pushing the bearing into the larger one. Hope it helps, worked for me on some really problematic (rusted) u-joints.

agree with bene, get under the vehicle and check. the other time you might hear the sound is when you are shifting from park to any other gear, and more specifice from drive to reverse, and visa, versa. hope it helps. gotta love a rover. duboff

If anyone in interested,
i have a friend that works in the o'really's headquarters "computer programmer"
He has done alot of stuff in the past and continues to help me find parts
especially rover parts
if you just walk in and ask the clerk for a popular part, like brake pads, u-joints, plug wires
there computer does not list any, and most likely they will not no of a part that will work,
my friend will dig in the books and ask others to look untill they find the part.
he just gave me ther part number for a u-joint
Here is the U-joint part number. PRE 344 "The description is for a '55-'99 British Euro and they told me this will work" The same part number is for both the front and rear axle.
hope this helps
i will post other parts numbers later,
