Default A note on changing the auto transmission fluid/filter

(This is an FYI - there are no questions here) I broke off two corner bolts of the total of six bolts that hold the automatic transmission pan in place. I then broke one Easy-out, and it looked like no hope for drilling it out.

So instead, I purchased from the dealer for $7 each two center spacers that help hold up the pan on the sides, part RTC5734. Then I drilled and tapped two new holes adjacent to the corner bolt holes, and now the everything is good. The case is very soft aluminum, but the torque on the bolts is 6 - 12 ft-lbs. (This is a '99 D-II, with about 126k miles, and yes the trans. fluid was changed 2-3 times before)

If you want to save money, any older BMW with an automatic also uses the sam ZF 4hp22 as out rovers and have the same spacers, so you could go to a salvage yard and get them cheaper if it is worth the savings. I am not sure what the dealer charges.

That is a good idea. I will have to remember that as I will be doing my filter and fluid soon.
