off road trailer build to haul behind the disco
Well I have gotten tired of packing all my camping gear in the back of the rover with me taking my two sons out and all the crap we need to bring it was a royal pia so I decided I needed a off road trailer something that I could haul anywhere the rover can go I looked at buying one ...but thats expensive and I am kinda cheap ..plus I have all the tools and enuff dumb ideas to build anything and with that so it begins ...I am sure it will get out of hand and will prolly end up costing me more than I could have bought it for but whatever thats how I roll...lol anyways here are a few pics of where I am at so far ...let me know what ya think ..
I had to match the fuel bead lock wheels on my truck so i ordered three wheels and put 35s on em I was going to go 37s to match the rover but I thought that might be over kill I am also using torsion bar suspension so I could get maximum ground clearance and I think the independent suspension will provide a decent ride on wash board roads eventually it will get a roof top tent on it also
I also designed my own multi axis hitch which will serve two purposes first give complete free movement on the trailer and second make it very hard for someone to hook up to it and try and steal unless they have the same hook up design which I doubt
You did a very nice job building it, looks really good,
I have a little suggestion & I hoe you don't mind me saying it, it looks like you can load a lot in it, so it will become very heavy (& it doesn't look very light even empty) the front bars that will attach to your hitch will take a lot of beating in bad trails, I would weld some triangular thick sheet metal vertical & horizontally from the bars to trailer so they would hold in bumpy & bad trails, ( but I guess you thought about it already),
It does look really pro work,

Thanks for the input I am going to weld support in the front in between the v and sheet metal a platform in that area the front tongue should be strong enough as there isnt much tongue weight there it is surprisingly light to be honest lighter than I thought it would be
Love the Disco on 37s. I considered that for a while before settling on 35s when I do my build.
the Disco's transmission can heat up quite a bit with a lot of weight behind it. I'd suggest doubling up on transmission coolers. If you don't have a factory oil cooler then that gives you the perfect location for it. I did and it seems to work great. Just an extra factory trans cooler and some hose and y-couplings. You can find pictures and stuff in the link in my signature.
very nice looking trailer, my friend. I've been considering something similar for a while.
