Default oh yea .... one more ....

Hi Again,

Oh yea, one more odd question …. I run full synth 5-30 in the truck now, mostly happier starts at -30 (grin)

The other day I came out and started the truck, it wasn’t cold, or anything at it can happen at any temp
really but for some reason “occasionally” the oil light will come on and stay on for 15 -30 seconds.

If I stop and turn the truck off right away it usually goes away. Sometimes it seems to happen if the
truck is parked on a slight slope as well …..

So is it a case of change the oil more often, it’s dirty you putz, or watch where you park - they can be
whiney on slopes or worse case of all … you’re pump is slowly going and get ready to crawl under the
hood for a weekend ! DOH

Cheers’
Dave

IMHO you will find if you examine the oil spec page of the shop manual that "x"W30 is good until about 95F in this engine. Many owners use 15W40, it has extended thermal range, once temps get up to above 32F. You can also get a 5W40 synthetic like Shell Rotella T6. Where are you with -30F at this time of year?

Oil light flashing or staying on is an evil thing. The oil switch is like 7 PSI. The spec is 10 PSI at idle, and 50 PSI hot at 2000 rpm. D2's have potential for cracked oil pump. You would be wise to conduct a manual oil PSI test.

OK, I'll do an oil test - thanks for the info and - yea, sorry, 2003 Disco with 189,000 km!

The light never flashes, it just comes on and seems to want some attention for a bit.

It's going in for a change anyway since it is time to go to a summer grade now anyhow.

We got snowed on last Saturday for a day .... about 2 inches - gone now tho, today was +22C. (grin)

Cheers'

Being that it is an 03, you may want to park it until you can check oil pressure. My guess i that you may be in for a new engine very soon. Also, you will probably be seeing a lot more of your oil light as outside temps rise.

Do you have the TD5 or 4.6V8? It shouldn't change any of the answers you got, just curious.

From your owner's manual:

Low oil pressure - RED
The light illuminates as a bulb
check when the starter switch is
turned to position ’II’ and extinguishes when
the engine is started. If the light remains on,
flashes on and off, or illuminates whilst
driving, stop the vehicle as soon as safety
permits and SWITCH OFF THE ENGINE
IMMEDIATELY. Seek qualified assistance
before driving
. Always check the oil level when
this light illuminates.

This is one instruction book real men need to read ... and heed. I know, real men use instruction books for packaging for the return of defective items, or wiping up oil drips, etc....
