Default Oil Cap

I just attempted to take off my oil cap after the engine was running to add some oil. The cap was locked on. I couldn't budge it and ended up turning the shaft it is attached too. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Need some help please.

YES! Happens to me all the time.
Screw the whole thing back on the engine, grab the neck with a pair of channel locks, dont squeeze to tight, just enough and then loosen the filler cap with your free hand.

NEVER add oil to an engine that is at all warm...

think about how hot things are, and when you poor cool liquid down there things break.

I'm not sure about the top twisting though, sorry

No problem, when you put the cap back on dont put it on to tight and it is less likly to stick.
I never have to add between oil changes so I have to use this method at every oil change.

Well, I usually don't add anything in between changes but it was coming up on the mileages to the next oil change and I was going on a trip so I wanted to check the level quick. It was just a little low. That is the first time it has happened to me. I will let you know how it goes tomorrow.

Well, I was able to pop off the oil cap with two adjustable strap wrenches. It was the first time I every used those and they worked quite well. I will be careful at how tight I put the cap on next time.
