Default Oil and filter

Advance has a deal, 6 quarts of Mobil One and your choice of Mobil One Oil Filter for $29.99 I'm up for my oil change. I live in southern SC and was thinking of 10w-40. Now on the filter I've read all over the forum that the Mobil 1-301 was the way to go. Why isn't this the filter recommended? They (Advance) recommends the smaller 1-204, I think? The price is the same either way. What's the benefit? Will I see a difference in the two. Will I need to add a 1/2 more to overcome the size? Your thoughts please...

Use it, I do and yes, it will take a good 6 plus quarts but give you more filtering material.
