Just my 2 cents, please carry on. I hope Julian can get this resolved, in whatever way possible.
Agreed. Keep the drama and dead horse beating for someone that cares. We just want to discuss the rover issues at hand.

Ok, I looked at my service manual, correct me if I'm wrong, I really want to know the cause of this failure...
The oil pump picks up oil from the sump (suction).
It then goes to the oil cooler if equipped. (pressure)
Then to the oil filter. (pressure)
Then to passages in the engine. (pressure) Drops back into oil pan, cycle starts over.
15w-40 Rotella T. In NH in winter.
Was oil too thick to circulate through filter and system?
OverRover was onto something with warm engine/cold filter test.

My cousin was thinking the same thing. However the mechanic said that once the truck warmed up during idle that the internal heat should have been hot enough to warm up the oil thus allowing circulation throughout the engine. Also I dont believe my truck has an oil cooler. I think those were fitted to older D2's.

I might have missed it but have you removed and checked the oil filter?

back in the day (1980’s) I had the oil filter fail on a mini 850 in cold weather. It resulted in oil starvation and a lunched engine.

You have the flow right, + or - the oil cooler.

What if the oil filter was blocked with cold oil, and the bypass too? And the pickup screen/tube?
Leave a jug of rotella t outside overnight, and try to pour it in the morning. That will give you some idea what your engine has to overcome.

I did clean the pickup tube and ran running water threw it, poured out the other side no problem. So it does not appear to be clogged. Nothing dark or otherwise nasty came out.

Is there an O ring on the tube?

Did you cut open the filter? Go get your filter and cut it open. Look for metal.

I don't think I would worry about the flow through the filter, I've seen the oring blow out when the path is restricted.
