Default Oil Pan Removal

HOLY Crap.......this thing is secured seven ways from Sunday. I am in the process of doing an oil pump/timing chain/gears, and I've never seen so many bolts going every which way. Is there a special sealant used for the pan or should I fabricate a good felt gasket. I see whay there are so many leaks. Every piece has a corner to corner angle. Next move is to remove the Cross member to drop the pan to get at the timing chain cover. Now I know why the stealership charges so much to work on these erector sets.

I got an oil pan gasket from AB but haven't put it in yet. Anyone know if this is the best way to go?
I plan to try this weekend if Mrs. Claus will settle down a little. Intested to hear how it went MrFlea if you finish yours up first. Good luck

I did the oil pan gasket last winter. there are about 22 bolts and 2 nuts on the front cover. It helps to number the bolts in the order they are to be torqure back. The gasket is at AB. It comes with little rubber nubs to hold it in place. I'm doing the timing chain in a few weeks, so I will be back in there. Argg
Just in stalled my CDL in my 03 for the last 4 days. I am tired of crawling under my rover!

Mr Flea, you will also find it easier to get the pan off if you raise the front of the vechicle as high as you can to get ground clearance (doesnt have to be off the ground).
I pulled mine without removing the crossmember if you have ground clearance you can drop it and turn it side ways. My crossmember had stripped bolts that i didn want to deal with in Febuary.
AB gasket works great it has gasket stays built into it. That being said I put a thin coat a black rtv on both surface, (very thin like gasket cement) hasnt leaked a drop.
Also the rave is incorrect about the bolt count i believe it say 22 bolts and the are actually 24. I think the rave is missing 2 that are in the bellhousing from the bottom.
good luck its a bear of a job, if they had use bolts in the timing cover it would have taken half the time.
