Default Oil Pan Removal Question

Can the pan be dropped without removing the front cross member? 6 out of the 8 bolts are totally rusted in (yes, I've used PB Blaster) and the heads are rounded. Just looking at it, it seems like you could let the front axle droop and have plenty of room to get the pan out.

I know on a D1 you can put a jack between the axle and the frame enough to get the pan out. Im not 100% sure on the D2.

According to Rave, Yes you can remove it without taking out the cross member.

Really? Rave says remove it as far as I can tell. Where are you seeing it otherwise? That's great if that's the case.

Geez. I don't know what I was drinking tonight, but I stupidly glossed right over that heading, and picture of the cross member while checking.

Just under the picture of the cross member showing the 8 bolts:
6. Remove 8 bolts securing cross member and remove cross member.

*wishes I could find an emoticon looking stupid and slapping itself in the forehead*
