Oil Recommendation

As for the weight of the oil, don't use what we may use but what the owners manual recommends for your engine in the temp. range where you live.

As an aside, are the K&N oil filters better than the factory LR oil filters? I have a box of LR oil filters (my step father used to own a mech shop and I opened an account at the local LR dealer at the time so I could get parts at shop cost).

RE: Oil Recommendation
I switched to 0w30 Mobil 1 and noticed my engine is much quieter at startup to operating temperature. It leaks a few drops, but no puddles under the Rover. In the summer I'll run 0w40 Mobil 1.
Before anyone replies with 'that oil there is too thin' please think first. Once up to operating temperature it is just the same as any other 30 weight oil. The oil viscosity does not correlate to the oil film strength either. Thicker oil does not necessarily protect better.
Cheers,
Pete

RE: Oil Recommendation
A Xw-30 motor oil only protects tp 95*F. Xw-40 Xw-50 protects upto 120*F.
Meaning that if it is hotter than 95* in the afternoon when you leave work the oil is going to break down faster.
Living in FL I would use either 15w-40 or 15w-50.
Use up what you have, as for the oil filters, the LR filters are just fine.
