By "antenna" wire I meant what I assumed was the ECU receiver antenna (not anything to do with the stereo) that I assume picks up the signal from the remote?

It's just a short (maybe 3-4" long) thick red wire that hangs loose out of one end pin of the gray connector and doesn't go anywhere. It's on an end pin.....

I never noticed anything like that on mine, not to say they are the same but my schematics show the antenna is a shielded cable connected to pins 13 and 26. and pin 26 is listed as yellow (the colors will most likely be different but I would imagine the rest should be the same)

Hmmm I'll look at it Chris to see if it's something that looks like it was cut. The rest all looks original...

What does your schematic show for the both end pins on the grey connector?

the schematic shows a shielded antenna wire pair at one end (one is a bare metal wire and the other is a regular wire and they both go into a jacket together) attached to 2 end pins (on the same side, top and bottom pin) judging by that I would think it actually goes to an antenna, and not just a pig tail.

So I fitted the used ECU from a reputable Ebay store. It looked to have been tested prior to sale because there was red paint on all the locking tabs and what I guess was the tech's initials painted on it.

Vehicle started right up and central door locking works fine with the key. (no remote) The alarm side of things appears to be totally inoperative which is just fine with me from now on! No red light on the dash.

The wiring from the PO is suspect. I don't think that red wire "pigtail" was the antenna, it looks like a cut wire at the multipin plug end but there is no sign of the other end leading into the bulkhead anywhere.

To sum up I think I will live with what I have now

ok just a heads up, not sure which wire is what or if you have ever had your OBD2 codes read but the wire that provides power to the diagnostic port comes from the security module. Not sure why they do this.

Glad to hear it is working now.

Thanks Chris, I haven't specifically had the codes read but have had ODB connected up for the CA smog tests, would that suggest it's working ok? or not related.
