Default Opinions Wanted

I have a 2001 D2, I am replacing all the injectors, relocating coil packs, replacing valley gasket, valve cover gaskets. That said, the front of the engine is all torn, I have 196k trouble free miles. The question is considering I am there already and I do not want to have to take all this apart again.

Should I go ahead and replace the oil pump? If I do, I am buying the entire assembly.
I am leaning towards going ahead with it and knowing I will not have a pump failure, I have had this D2 since 2017 and have no idea, what was done to it prior to my owing it, I driven it for 8 years relatively trouble free but it is time to do some maintenance. Thoughts?

Yeah, once you get in deep, I definitely am all for doing as much preventative as possible. As you are at 196k, how are the tappets? Maybe the water pump too?

Out of over 2 dozen I have only had two with broken oil pumps, both 03's. Oil pumps on these do not wear out (plenty of lube lol) and rarely break on early models. If oil pressure is good I would not bother, new one could be worse than oem.

In my opinion, if your front cover is off, you should replace the timing chain. They don’t break, but they stretch and your valve timing goes farther and farther away from ideal. I think conventional wisdom is to not replace the gears for the timing chain, as the quality of replacement ones are terrible.

Any oil leaks? With that mileage, if the front seal is weeping id install a reddi sleeve. Cheap insurance so you won't have to pull the crank pulley again.
