Default out-of-the-blue. tranny shifting weird...briefly

So I just returned from a week long business trip and had the D2 parked at the AP long term lot. Jumped in, started up and headed for home. Once up the uphill entrance ramp to the interstate I notice the RPM's were at near 3K @ about 70mph, guessing 3rd gear, truck was in D. It hung there for longer than I would think it should, maybe for 1/2 mile, I wasn't trying to go faster, then upshifted to 4th. This was not normal for my truck. Any ideas what would have caused this? The fluid and filter have both been changed in the last 5-8k miles and it has zero leaks. The ramp was not far from the parking so the truck was not fully warmed up but close. Engine was at about 158-160 deg, ambient temp was in the 50's, so not cold. From there it behaved as normal, except being paranoid I thought maybe the up and down shift were a little harder. Today it drove fine.
XYZ? Pending doom?

Low battery on startup throws the trans in to a limp home mode, starts in 3rd and stays in 3rd. That's my guess. Normally accompanied by flashing M&S lights but one my truck the leds are burnt out apparently (don't come on during bulb check).

Hmmm...The low battery could be it. The truck started after sitting for 4 days no problem but I guess the battery could have been drained a bit.
