Default transmission dead?

I have been milking my transmission along until the tranny filter arrived. The filter arrived yesterday, this evening, I drove about a block, parked for an hour and got back in the truck to drive back home. Started the truck up, applied the brake and shifted into drive, nothing, regardless of the gear I put the shifter into, nothing. The darn thing wouldn't move. It has done this in the past when cold, but it was 65 degrees and I had just driven the truck an hour before with no issues? Is the tranny toast? When in reverse, drive, 3rd, 2nd or 1st, it just won't move. Are there any fuses or any other electical parts that would control the tranny engaging? Thanks in advance. Phil

ps, fluid is clean, unburnt and recently changed. no tranny leaks.

This one is the 1999 DI with 105k miles

lj - will it start to engage the trans if you rev it a little (like 2000-2500 revs)?

Check the level and while doing that, what color is the fluid and does it smell, be specific.

The DI trans is non electrical, that means it is just a plain old trans, just like from a '70's pick up.
Sounds like it is toast.

I was just wondering, if he could get it to engage with revs I would think that it might just be a new pump, not a complete tear down.

Question Fluid Level on Dip Stick is off the charts

hopefully someone is home today checking LRF and not out wheeling or watching soccer. I towed the 1999 DI home last night. I checked the fluid level again, I checked it last weekend and it was right on the mark (cold, shifted from park to first and checked level in neutral). When I checked it today, the fluid level went half way UP the dipstick. Why would it show so much fluid, is there a valve or pump that isn't circulating the fluid like it should? When I shift the gear shift from park or neutral into any other gear, the engine slightly changes pitch, rpms don't really change, but you can tell that the tranny is doing something when put into gear, other than that, there is no indication whatsoever that it is in any gear, R, 1, 2,3 or D. HELP ME before I sink a grand into a used transmission. Thanks Phil
