Default Out put shaft oil leak

Hi All

I have the dreaded oil leak from my hand brake drum, on the rear prop shaft, a quick look up at the cost of the correct tool LRT-41-012, was not the way to go for a one off use, and so I came up with a novel way to do the job

I had ordered a new flange and seal from Bearmach, cheap at about 25$, so now how to get the new seal in perfect, I had a look on line and soon found an article that says the seal should go in and sit on the large circlip that holds the bearing in for the shaft, OK so far but no wanting to damage the new seal I decided to use the now old flange and mud seal to push in the new seal

Having measured the housing to the circlip minus the thickness of the seal , its full home at 7mm inside the housing,

So to get this done I removed the mud washer seaI, then tacked 3 x 5mm thick nuts on to the old flange, then just slipped the mud seal back on

I also cut the nylock off the old nut so I could used the to press the new seal in place

OLD FLANGE WITH 5 MM

THICK NUTS WELDED IN PLACE

FLANGE WITH THE OLD MUD SEAL IN PLACE

OLD SEAL IN PLACE, IT FIT JUST PERFECT, ALSO SHOWING THE OLD NUT I USED TO PUSH THE FLANGE AND NEW SEAL IN
