Over heat and Wet Passenger carpet
2000 discovery with 178k ..
issue . if left at idle for approximately 5 min it will begin to over heat.
the passenger floor board is wet. looks like water. this discovery is new to me and not sure if the old owner filled the cooling system with just water.
(I live in Florida .. never drops below 40)
also cooling system looses about 4oz of fluid after about 200 miles.
oil is good and clean not or white milky also no white smoke from exhaust.
my guess it is the heater core or (Heater matrix) is what i think Land Rover Calls it.... or also read on here that it may be the seals from the hoses.
also .. i know on other cars you can by-pass that system under the hood and all you do will loose cabin heat. is that so on discoveries ?
doing a Major tune up this weekend flushing all fluids, new front main seal, timing chain and seal, oil pan seal, tranny filter and seal. valve covers, and now looking into the heater core i guess....
anything else it could be ?
was an aircraft crew chief for 6 years in the Air Force.. how hard can it be

that's what i am thinking .. going to check out the seals hopefully that's the case. anyone know the size or are they special order .. because auto zone and parts store don't have anything unless i wait 3 days to get the part.
The fluid on the carpet, is it water or oily coolant?
I would quit driving it till fixed and as for the wet carpet, you really should pull and clean the carpet and pad, dry them off and spraying Lysol on them afterwards to prevent mold.

I have an issue that may be similar? My disco 2 was overheating, but filling it with proper coolant stopped that. Even idling fir a long time it maintains mid range temp. BUT, after being on the road for 30 minutes or so, when I turn right, a spurt of hot (really hot) water hits my right foot. What could cause that?

You'll want to do something about the heater core leaking. Here's the plumbing plan for the D2. As mentioned, bypass with a loop until time and money allow repairs.
Understand that your temp gauge is not telling you the whole truth. It will point at 50% from about 130-240F. So use a scanner, ultra gauge, etc. to see real coolant temps. You risk a head gasket job or worse if you run around at 227 while the gauge tells you everything is OK. Note these two trucks, same reading, different temps.
You can also have blocked drains for the AC system, should make two wet spots under truck when AC running on hot days. Little rubber plug on each side of transmission, poke it with a stick and mud will come off, followed by stinky water that has been stuck inside there. I guess it might heat up under some conditions, normaly cold.

If that is the case, you need to unplug the 2 a/c drain tubes under your car, located thru the floor and on either side of the tranny.
I am not sure I would Pull the carpet for this though if it is just water, A good shop vac and some patience might be better then pulling the seat and console to get to that piece of carpet.
