Default Over use of RTV illustration

Who ever worked on this poor 4.0 loved RTV and hated his cooling system, almost every water way was partly blocked with RTV. I got this engine and transmission cheap because it had a suspected block crack - kept overheating after head gaskets. I amazed water flowed given the amount of RTV I have found.

Note the heavy over use of RTV

RTV is the killer in engines in the FRS and BRZ. A lot of engines after the latest recall die within a thousand miles due to too much RTV being used to seal them back up. It blocks the oil passages. Surprisingly this is more common with the Toyota versions than the Subaru

that's no so bad in the pics...it's the excess that broke off and is stuck in your radiator that is really excessive.....

I've seen so many pick up screens just full of massive blobs of RTV. People do the oil pan gaskets with RTV and vs using a small steady bead they slap it on there like mashed potatoes. Not only does it leak, but the pieces that break off inside go straight into the pickup tube. Water pump wise I've seen some pretty crazy stuff, but nothing I think will ever beat the upper intake manifold gasket on a Bosch engine made out of an old T-Shirt.......... Can't imagine why that engine wasn't running right lol.

Looks like the engine is an excellent candidate for angioplasty

Worst thing is now I have to decide if I want to spend the money get a hot pressure test done on the block. It was thought it was cracked but with all the RTV everywhere I am not so sure.
