Wow, $1280 for a 3k cap? Thats a terrible deal. Now you have a Disco with a head gasket issue and a knocking engine....those ba$tard$. Get all you can then

Agree with Drowssap, connecting rod bearings. Sounding like a diesel is not a slipped liner. Every tech says slipped liner when they hear a noise, especially the dealer. Most of the techs at the dealer were not trained on discovery motors and are guessing.

If it hasn't been doing the knock for long you might be able to just swap the bearings.

Did the vehicle run well for any amount of time after purchase?

With bearings I would suspect you have low oil pressure, is the oil light on? Also if there is coolant in the oil? The coolant can eat the bearings away.

With the knock and head gasket you are looking at a healthy bill.

Also, you could post a video of the noise if you want a 15th opinion.

Good luck.

the motor had an issue from day 1,you bought it leaking coolant.
it may have needed head gaskets at one time but you are beyond that point now. you basically need a engine.
so I would not be worried about a "cap" I would be worried about how to get the $3k out of them to put toward a used engine.
because driving it over heated is what burned up the bearings, so you wont want to admit that to your warranty company.
I'm not try to be the voice of doom, but someone has deal with reality.

Doom and gloom huh? I pulled the spark plugs, four were white the 4, 6, 8, and 1.

I tried K&W HG sealer, what a waste of my time... It worked until I tried driving.
