Default Overzealous anti-lock brakes

I have a 97 Disco. The antilock brakes (I assume) were firing off at every stop sign. I assume that was the problem since when I removed the anti-lock brake fuse, the problem went away. I'm just fine with leaving the fuse out, but I was just wondering how difficult that is to repair.

Without getting the ABS codes read (dealer only) there is no way to tell what the repair is.
It could be a bad wheel speed sensor, $400.
Or a bad ABS modulator, $1500.

Replace the ABS fuse and pull the ABS PUMP fuse (30a) from under the hood, the ABS light will stay on but the ABS will no longer give you fits.

If you leave the fuse under the dash pulled the ABS pump will still kick in at random.

I agree, if you want to fix the problem get a mechanic with the proper scanner to read your ABS codes and go from there.
Let us know what you find.

When I first bought my 97 DI the little lot I got it from included a "free 6 month/6000 mile warranty. They told me wait a month and take it in.

The next week, the ABS went into panic mode, pumped several times then went back to quiet again with the ABS lighton steadily. I called Bobby Rahal Motors (the retired race car driver) and took it to them. I spent the morning in their lounge drinking their fancy coffees and chatting with the Jaguar, Rover, Volvo and Benz owners and drooling over a new DB9 pair on the showroom floor.

Finally my Service Advisors took me into his office and explained that my DI "needed a lot of work, luckily the warranty would cover "most" of it. "

He handed me the keys to my "free" loaner and said he would contact me later with more details because they would have to order several parts. He said his primary concern was my safety, that "he front wheels were in danger of falling off". He promised to call me in a couple of days with more information.

I was looking forward to having a new Rover for a few days, but it turned out to be a new Suzuki XL7. Not a Rover, but "free".

They replaced the ABS ECU and I don't really know what the issue was with the front wheels falling off, but they wanted an outrageous price for a window ECU that was "not Covered". I ended up paying around $300, they had the car for 2 weeks. A few days later ABS light came back on. After I redid my front and rear brakes, the ABS has not reignited.

I trusted Rahal because they had treated me good on my 86 420SEL on major items that I was not equipped to handle. But I have done all my own work on the Rover since then. I did want them to check it out completely, which they did and the ABS ECU was the main part. Of course they recycle those.

I hope that $300 was not for a new window lift ECU, you could have fixed it for free and a hour of your time.

Glad to hear you are happy with their service, that goes along way.
I will overpay to get good service.
