Default paid a mechanic, help with invoice

Hoping to get some feedback as to whether or not work done on my '04 D2 was fair. Some things I'm questioning:

-2.7 hrs upper intake plenum install?

-Seems as though they double charged me for both a transfer case and transmission fluid exchange.

they used Mitex brand brake pads- any good?

Did they give you an estimate before that you approved? Also, would be a good idea to recrop the picture without your full name and address!

Yeah with your VIN#, phone number and name and address posted on the internet I hope you have Lifelock or something.

$55/hr is cheap labor, so they are going to charge you more for parts and bill you for more time.
$16 for a oil filter sounds about right, they paid $3 for it and charge you $16, thats normal.
This was a Rover shop wasnt it?

The 4 hours for replacing the valve cover gaskets should have included the labor for the upper intake. They shouldn't have charged you for it at all. Just the part.

Can't comment about the rest, finding and choosing a mechanic is trial and error and "caveat emptor" (let the buyer beware) always applies...but I agree that $55/hr is the lowest labor rate I've seen in very long time.

I've got a decent independent mechanic, an Italian guy that specializes in Ferrari's, Alfa's etc... but has carved out a reputation with Land Rovers as well and he drives a Discovery II -- so he shares our love and our pain! He charges $120/hour. But to be honest, I've saved a lot since finding him because he is incredibly honest and only fixes what needs to be done and applies a lower variable rate for simple tasks.

Good luck!
