Pandora's Box
Hello guys, i am having issues with my 03 disco with 170kmi. This may be long but i want to give as much info as possible. I replaced both head gaskets with engine in vehicle due to constant overheating issues. turns out drivers side showed water intrusion in second cylinder. anyways got it back together although major pain to do angle torque sequence correctly. veh continued to overheat and dumped lots of coolant into fuse block next to fill tank. amongst trying to figure out what was going on, noticed horn relay began to stick and then the truck would start and die so i decided to disassemble the fuse box as much as i dared to dry it out. truck started running again but still overheated but since along came hurricane Issac, i had to leave it alone.went to start it today but battery was dead so i put a charge on it at which time it started the start and die routine. i replaced the battery with new but no change. i do notice that the key fob unlocks the doors but when i go to lock, horn blows but does not lock. alarm issue or security maybe? used a borrowed airlift system to try and remove all air out of coolant system but now i cant keep it running to diagnose overheating issue. please help

Food for thought from RAVE:

The IDM communicates with the BCU and the instrument pack via a serial interface. If the BCU or the IDM is replaced, the communications link between the two units has to be re-established. This can be done either by switching on the
ignition and leaving it on for five minutes, or by using TestBook. The vehicle immobilisation will remain active until thecommunications link between the BCU and IDM has been re-established.

The RF transmitter communicates to the BCU via the RF receiver using a 70 bit code. Pressing the unlock button on the transmitter will re-mobilise the vehicle
Hi neighbor I am still cleaning up from Isaac. With the overheating problem did you change the thermostat yet? With the locking issue are you sure that all the doors are closed? I know that once I did not have the back door closed all the way and when I hit the lock button the horn would blow you also have to have the hood closed or the same thing will happen
My best guess on this one is that your underhood fuse box has problems due to all the water that got on it. Also, the overheating could be caused by many things, not just head gaskets. As Aaron sugested, it could be the thermostat. It could also be the radiator. Did you put any head gasket repair in it before doing the heads? If so, it could have clogged things up. It could also be the radiator cap. Did you have the heads resurfaced?
Ok here is some additional info. i did replace water pump and thermostat. i removed the radiator and found it did in fact have lots of stop leak in it so i flushed it as much as possible. i took the heads to a machine shop and was told they were not warpped and also checked out fine when vacum tested. im going to try and leave the ignition on for five minutes and see if that works. i have a feeling my main problems starts at a relay or in the fuse/relay box. gonna try to swap main relays with new ones as soon as parts store is open.
also wanted to mention that the battery was disconected several times amongst going dead. i replaced it with new one so not sure if that would contribute to start and die problem.
