Has anyone ever put together a list of the parts needed to wire a D2 for towing a trailer with brakes and instructions for installing it all?

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

I installed mine with the cheapest brake controller I could find with decent reviews by following the instructions. I also used the universal WalMart wiring kit a 4 pin to 7 pin adapter. I think I got that at O'Reilley, but ill see if I can find the link. It mounts in like a regular 7 pin connector, but the cables coming out of the back plug into the 4 pin harness. It has three loose wires to splice into the trailer brakes and a ground. That gives me the capability of using both a 7 pin and a 4 pin whenever I need.

If you pull the rear bumper cover off and look at the bumper underneath, there's a great spot that the 7 pin deallio fits right into. You can just cut a section out of the cut a hole in the bumper cover and mount her right in to the bumper underneath.

If you're looking for individual parts, I have most of them used, in stock.

For installation, just remove the right tail light. With the tail light removed you will see a covered plug attached to the inner body. Remove the cover, plug in the accessory feed box. Snake the harness of the 7 pin plug up from beneath the truck and plug it into the accessory feed box. Use the bracket that comes with the kit to attach the 7 pim plug to the tow assembly and you're done. Atlantic British has a video but it's of the 4 pin kit they sell. Everything is the same except they let the 4 pin plug dangle whereas the 7 pin plug needs to be anchored to the tow assembly.

 

Oh, and for all of the above I just followed the included instructions.

For the actual trailer lights I ended up just splicing in behind my tail lights, but I wouldn't recommend it. I'm going to actually rewire mine to be switched by my tail lights but to get power through relays. That way there wont be too much current draw on the factory wiring, creating a fire risk.
