PCV system operation
I've had an oil consumption issue since purchasing my 99 D2. The PO put in top hat liners during a rebuild. Also a custom roller rocker setup. Compression is good. Not smoking that I've noticed. So I took the MAF out to clean it and found lots of oil in the air intake tube and throttle body. Was not getting down to the MAF as it was dropping into the thing on the lower side of the intake tube. It appears to be coming up on the drivers side from the valve cover. My oil separator is clean on the passenger side. I'm thinking about putting one is the driver side also to see if that will stop it from being sucked into the intake. While reading his build post he mentioned possible clearance issues with the roller rockers and the baffles in the valve covers. I'm wondering if he modified them? What do you PCV system experts think?

I'm no expert, but if he was having clearance issues, maybe he did hack the baffles out. I wonder if you could buy a regular style pcv valve and plumb it into the existing tube? They're dirt cheap and you never know, it might work. Then you could fill the oil and keep an eye on it.
I'm not sure. I leave my Rover at the shop so I'm not tempted to drive it. That's when things get broken!
I would say, if you're getting a lot of oil up in the intake, something is not right with the pcv system. It could be stuck open with carbon deposits or sludge. Or it could be missing altogether.

The separator is in place and clean. The hose is oil filled on the passenger side but dry on the drivers side. Yesterday I took the hose off and left the separator in place. I put a breather filter on the valve cover and plugged the port on the manifold. I topped it off with oil after thouroghly cleaning the intake. Drove her to work today 50 miles. I'm plan to do it again tomorrow. Then I'll pull everything apart and see if it stopped.
