Default A-Pillar trim install tips

Hi Guys,

Finally got a set of A-pillar trims to replace my old cracked ones. Wondering if there are any tips/tricks on proper way to install them? It's a little tricky as they have to wrap around the a-pillar and clip in. They are quite fragile and I don't want to break anything.

Thanks!

Andy

Most used ones will be if that's what you have.

If the clips are rusty you probably should replace them and they are available.

No other tips but here's Rave procedure.
Side finisher - windscreen
$% 76.43.39
Remove
1. Push centres from 3 trim clips securing finisher
to 'A' post.
2. Remove trim clip outers from finisher.
3. Release finisher from 3 spring clips.
4. Remove finisher.
Refit
1. Fit finisher to 'A' post and secure with spring
clips.
2. Fit trim clip outers to finisher.
3. Fit centres to trim clips.

If they are used, put lots of "Armor all" on them inside and out then put them under the sun to make them warm and soft B4 installing them, (can also uses hair dryer to get them hot & soft), it usually works for me, (hot & soft plastic won't crack as easily as a cold and hard piece,),, good luck,,

Default More Tips on A Pillar Trim Install

All, I just bought and installed new A Pillar trim on my Disco. I'm glad I started with the passenger side first because the driver side pillar's clips were installed the opposite/wrong way, causing me to almost break the plastic the first time around, so that's a good thing to check prior to installing. The flat part of the clip should face inward towards the middle of the truck so it can slide inward and click in.

My other tip is that its easier to maneuver the plastic trim and line up the holes (per the AB video this is how you first get it into position) if the door is in the closed position because you get about another centimeter of clearance to line it up. So I had the door propped open initially and inserted the plastic about 80% of the way, then closed the door to line it up and tap it in.

The only other thing I'd note is that I got these from Atlantic British and they have more of a matte finished compared to my glossy original trim pieces (see 1st pic below).

Original on left, new AB trim on right

Notice that the flat part of the clip is pointing away from the truck. It should be pointing inward so the clip will slide inward and click in, otherwise you're likely to break the fragile plastic molding that holds the clip.

Thanks for the info and pics.
I've had 2 new trims for a year now that I need to replace but waiting to find 2 top corner drip rails for a good price. One is missing and the other is cracked all to hell.
