Default Pin liner question

Using the nice write-up on this forum did anyone actually do this from under the vehicle? It look's kind of tight with motor mounts / exhaust from a drilling perspective. I have been driving around with the darn tick on warm up for about 35k miles now and now wish to follow the procedure with a nice right angle drill from under the car. Engine purrs like new until warmed up, then starts making a tick that goes away when rpm revving up. A bit of background on my truck is when I did the front cover / pump about 10k ago I found a piece of the lower land of the block where the liner sits on the bottom buried in some sludge on the bottom of the oil pan hence my strong suspicion for a slipped liner. I posted a pic of this a while ago if you want a good laugh.
