Default Pinion seal leaking?

Just noticed some drops below the rear differential. Looks as if it may be the pinion seal. Should I replace it or try some stop leak? If I replace it how hard of a job is it?

If you can remove the rotoflex spigot easily it should be relatively easy and you can hold and torque up the pinion nut on assembly. I reckon if you are used to spanners, have a garage it's about a 2-3 hour job.

Replace it and when done make sure you use a 85/140 gear oil for better wear protection.

Mike, I've changed recently to a high quality synthetic 75/90 and it's a tarmac trekker not used offroading, what do you think?

Since you are not wheeling hard, you'll be OK, other wise you should run a heavier oil in the diffs and t/case to keep them running cooler with less wear.

If you have the rotoflex here are some instructions on removing the flange spigot without the LR special tool.
