Default Plugging into cigarette lighter port.

Hi everyone, it has been a while since I posted last. I have a question about the cigarette lighter port. I bought a spotlight that you plug into the cigarette lighter. I could never get it to work because of the fit. It didn't seem to go in far enough and it was very wiggly. I did get the light to work, but I had to continually push the power plug into the port. If I quit pushing on it it would lose the connection and the light would go out. There is a port behind the back seat and it was the same problem there. I just figured it might be a bad plug on the light or maybe it was just cheap merchandise and let it go.

Now I am trying to get a power inverter to work using the cigarette lighter port and I still have the same problem that I had with the light. You just can't push it in far enough to make the connection. I will be going on the road for a few weeks and need to be able to charge my laptop while I am driving.

Has anyone ever had this problem? How did you solve this problem?

Does a Discovery have a different size cigarette lighter port than an American Car?

Thanks!
Bob

Default RE: Plugging into cigarette lighter port.

I don't have an answer for you, but i have the same issue. used spot light and power inverter, for my notebook. It just seems like it does not fit well. my cigar lighter does not work well either, i have to hold it in to get hot. actually i have to PUSH it in to work. hard. nothing seems to work well in that. my phone charger, gps charger, they all come loose to easily. I took out the cigarette tray for the back seat, in the center console thing, and i wired in a 3 port power outlet i got from radio shack. I dont know what i'm going to do with the factory plug, just exists for now.. sadly. hope someone else has a solution, even it its replacing the darn thing
